Hoping for a Grey Day!

We are hoping that the grey lid that has been clamped down over the skies of England this summer will crack open enough for rays of sunshine to light up our ‘greys’ at Market Rasen on Saturday.

It’s Summer Festival Day at Market Rasen and Gwafa (pictured) tries to emulate his half-brother Australia Day by winning the Summer Hurdle. “Skippy” still holds the course record and I doubt Gwafa can threaten that under top weight, but he does seem to remain in excellent form. We had hoped to run him on the flat at Royal Ascot or Haydock, but have been thwarted by this summer’s soft ground. Richie schooled him this week and felt that he felt stronger for his two month break since winning the Betfred Swinton Hurdle at Haydock.

Tindaro always runs a consistent race and usually finishes in the first four and I think he has another good each-way chance again tomorrow. I do hope the possible showers stay away from Lincolnshire until after 3pm, as the ground is especially important to this horse.

Both horses have been entered today for races in San Sebastian but need to put some pennies into the pot to meet the expenses of trucking to Spain!
